Control Systems Engineer – West Midlands – Permanent – £45-55k + private health care

Samuel Frank is recruiting for an experience Control System Engineer ideally with knowledge of the Siemens range of PLCs and associated packages. Control Engineers with good PLC experience in any of the other major vendors will be considered as long as the successful hire is keen to cross train into Siemens.

The company is a small systems integrator, so the role comes with plenty of opportunity to shine whilst working on very interesting and challenging projects. They have a culture of helping people further themselves academically and the role could see the person they hire take on Lead Engineer or managerial responsibilities in the future.

Key aspects to the Control System Engineer role include;

  • Knowledge of Siemens TIA Portal, classic Step-7, WinCC and Comfort HMIs.
  • Write well-structured PLC software in accordance with pre-defined Function Design Specifications
  • Write HMI or SCADA software
  • Carry out software code reviews
  • A willingness to write first class documentation (i.e. Software Design Specification, Operating Instructions, Factory Acceptance Test Documents, Site Acceptance Test Documents), previous experience not 100% necessary but the successful Control Systems Engineer will often be involved in writing documentation
  • Positive attitude towards validation. The company works in industries where validation is key, so the Controls Engineer needs to value the validation stage to the process
  • Very limited extended stints on site. So far this year, there has been one stint of 4 weeks on site. All the company’s customers are based regionally in the UK. The FATs are usually done in the workshop which reduces the time required to be away from home.

Applicants with knowledge of machine safety (specifically Part 1 of BS EN ISO 13849) would be considered favourably but this isn’t an essential requirement.

All applicants must be British passport holders as some of the work will require security clearance.

The role will be mainly office based and the clients’ offices are based on the West side of Birmingham and will be easily commutable from places such as Kingswinford, Wolverhampton, Walsall, Dudley, Halesowen, Brierley Hill & Stourbridge.
