Controls Engineer – West Midlands – Permanent – £45-52k + overtime – Special Purpose Machinery / Automated Systems – Hybrid Working

Samuel Frank is recruiting for an experienced Controls Engineer to join a specialist automation business that’s based in between Birmingham and Worcester.

This company designs and builds full production lines that involve complex control systems as well as industrial robots.

Key requirements for the Controls Engineer position include –

  • Knowledge of at least one major PLC vendor, e.g. Siemens or Allen Bradley.
  • Significant experience in the design of controls for bespoke, automated systems.
  • Strong knowledge of component parts including motors, drives & encoders
  • Familiarity with Machine Safety Directive, PUWER and/or CE Marking.
  • Ability to take a leading role
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office.

The role will be appeal to a “techie” or someone who describes themselves as a “hobbyist” who will be exposed to projects using a wide range of technologies and equipment across a wide range of industries – this will be amazing coverage for the successful Controls Engineer.

Key activities for the Controls Engineer include –

  • Extracting & interpreting customer requirements
  • Contributing to design specifications
  • Control systems design and development including PLC programming
  • Leading system integration, test and validation
  • Preparing documentation for system operation & maintenance

The role will be split between working in the office, working from home and working on customer sites in the UK with an approximate, estimated ratio of 60%/20%/20% respectively.

The working week is 37.5 hours and all hours worked Monday to Friday over 40.5/wk will be paid at x1.3. Hours worked on a Saturday will be paid at x1.5 and hours worked on Sundays and Bank Holidays will be paid at x2.0.

A UK driving licence is an essential requirement for the role. The company is open to helping with relocation.

The offices are commutable from Birmingham, Worcester, Dudley, West Bromwich, Kidderminster, Droitwich, Bromsgrove, Redditch and Droitwich.
